Recent Graduate - How are chances of getting an Online Marketing job with 1 internship?

Don't use a picture for Linkedin if you don't have a proper one. I leave mine blank and no one has ever said anything about it. It really isn't that hard to take a good picture anyway. Wear a white shirt, do up your hair, shave, and take a photo of your face + shoulder. Done.

You need to build your portfolio if you want to land yourself with a decent job. That can be done in many many ways:

1. Post in your local classifieds that you would do any online marketing work for free.
2. Bid for jobs on Elance, Freelancer, Odesk etc.
3. Door knocking - ask small business owners if they would like to subscribe to your services for free until they see results.

Marketing trend is definitely moving from traditional to online, but it is still going through transition phase at the moment. A lot of companies are just starting to hire their own in-house digital marketing person instead of paying agent to do it. This means that they are new to the whole online marketing concept. I know because I have been observing the job market over the last 2 months.

If you want to land yourself a job straightaway try the following:

1. Apply for another internship and prove yourself worthy to them. Try working free for a month or 2 and see if they would let you stay.
2. Look for low paying or part time jobs. They are normally small businesses who see the potential of hiring an online marketing person but are hesitant of taking a big step due to budget constraints. They are good stepping stones.

Above that I have a few more advice for you:

1. Try not to start an SEO business. I own one at the moment and it's stressful because of 2 reasons:
a)
Too much uncertainties. Google algorithm will keep changing and you can never be sure if the small amount of money your clients are paying you will be enough for you to do a 100% whitehat job that takes time to do. I have had 100% success rate for SEO so far, but I still don't sleep well until I see results.
b)
International competition. ALL my clients with websites have received PLENTY of emails from India, Philippines, Europe and Australia SEO or Web companies. You are competing worldwide. You better be big or cheap if you want to survive.

2. The most promising career paths (easiest and most feasible) so far:
a) Work for a company as a digital marketing coordinator. Don't work for an agency, work for a company.
b) Start your own online business - retail, services, etc etc. E.g. sell a niche product and apply your online marketing methods to it.

Good luck!
