Before writing anything take a few minutes to think about your core topic for your website, try to avoid putting in irrelevant contents.

Then figure out the keywords from a visitor perspective. If you are a web design company in New York, you may want to include "New York" as your keyword, since your customer base are mainly there.

With a list of keywords, try to put them in appropriate places :
1. Page <title>
2. Page <meta> description
3. Any <h1> subject
4. If you are writing a blog, put the keywords in the blog post title
5. Mention it more than once (but not too many) in your content.

SEO is about maximizing the chance people can find your website using keywords. The keyword list is of utmost importance as it will affect what you should write.
