Windows 8.1 vs Windows 8.1 Pro?

If you can afford Pro then I would recommend you go for it. However, the Standard edition is almost exactly the same apart from the media centre pack.

You can play games on both, YouTube can be watched on either using your browser of choice (I use Google Chrome), Storing Files can be done on both and Movies can be watched on both. On Pro it will use the media centre pack as the default player for DVDs, while on both the Standard and Pro editions there is the possibility of using Windows Media Player which is the natively supported media player.

I personally would just buy the Standard Edition since it is cheaper and does almost exactly the same thing.

P.S. I didn't really like the metro interface when I first saw it, but since I got Windows 8.1 I have come to love it and would highly discourage you from disabling it with a 3rd party program
