Questioning christianity..?

You have a valid question. It is hard to understand why the bible says we need to confess with our mouth and in our heart that Jesus is Lord and Saviour. It is easier to do good, really. At least on that note we can have a good understanding, if we lack or have enough, on where we are in terms of gaining favour with "God". If you look at all the world's religion it points to being generally good or do certain tasks to be "blessed", yet the bible says by faith we are saved through Jesus Christ. Pride kills faith, that is why Jesus said this:

Luke 4:18
18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

But then again, the bible says there are those who say the follow Jesus, yet in the end they are really looking after their own:

Matthew 7:21-24
21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:

It is good that you question yourself because from there you can truly know in your heart if you really believe in Jesus Christ.

Romans 10:8-13
8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
