Well, that could be a problem...
Several brand/models of printers have hard drives on them (just like computers). These copiers are more common in corporations or large operations. When a document is readied to be copied, a 'soft' copy is saved to the hard drive. Data on the hard drive can be retrieved by the operator/owner. (Data on the HDD can even be 'slurpped' by hackers if the device has an Internet connection.) http://www.pcworld.com/article/2026683/p...scape.html Call the print shop and ask them what model printer they have beforehand, and research the mfgr's site to determine if it has a hard drive. Don't ask the shop: sometimes they don't know squat about the actual equipment. In case that's not enough to worry about, you must make sure (if you're using a digital device to migrate to the print shop) to take your files to be printed on a CD. If the printer has been hacked (with the Conficker worm for instance) your media won't be getting infected, and cross contaminating your home system/network. USB drives should be set to "Read only" after you load the fotos/documents, then you will be protected at the kiosk. Reverse the setting after you get back home. Trust no one. |
