I've recently signed up for a 7 days SEO course to recognize and avoid the most common mistakes in SEO. Looks like they - just as most of the guys out there - aim for Google. So I'd recommend that for you, too.

Also, a website should make use of social networking stuff (Flickr, Facebook, YouTube, Tweeter...)
... and a BLOG (fresh content is important)
