Do you lose your internet search history when you switch computers?

You'll lose everything, if you switch to another computer with everything but your hard drive. All information is stored on the hard drive.

Do you want any files off the hard drive? Music? Photos? They're often easy to transfer but you can run into trouble with having user authority to get at them.

An option is to source a suitable replacement motherboard. If it's under warranty, have it replaced through where you bought it. If it isn't and you can't get one new through a computer shop, try eBay, or looking in places near you where you can pick up second-hand computers that could have a suitable motherboard. A computer shop might have a second-hand motherboard that you can buy from them but if you can't get one locally, they would most likely be willing to offer suggestions for where to try for a second-hand computer. (I really do strongly recommend you get one of your computer shops on board helping with this - sounds like you are nowhere near the level of knowledge needed to do the job yourself.)

Then have the computer shop replace the motherboard and do the phone rigmarole with Microsoft to get the computer running again. They've done the phone business many times and having a whole bunch of numbers and letters thrown at them over the phone won't phase them.

Absolute worst comes to absolute worst, a computer shop may be able to set up a new computer for you with that hard drive free for you to use. You'll probably have to tel them your username and password for logging into Windows.

Let me clarify that last paragraph, in case it's misinterpreted. I don't mean they'll do the job for free; I mean they'll "free" the hard drive from refusing to let you access it.
