There are many many ways he could have done this.

Look, Google tracks all the websites you visit while logged into ANY of their services. REF: https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/54068?hl=en

If your ex knows your Google password, he could see a list of the sites you visited without any hacking whatsoever. However, you can put a stop to it: either change your Google password or change the settings here: https://www.google.com/history

Like I said, this is only one of many possibilities.
