First there are two factors in internet speed. Throughput and latency.
Throughput can be measured at a number of places. A quick search for "internet speed test" will return a plethora of options. Latency is harder to measure and has many different parts. Each connection will have to make multiple router hops to get to the destination. On most connections this is probably about 15 hops. Each hop adds latency. Normally the highest latency hop is your internet connection. Unless you pay a lot of money (say a few hundred dollars a month for a leased line) there's not much you can do about it though. |
