Is this ok or not...?

There's this girl I have talked to at school, and over twitter, etc. and I wanted to ask her on a date. Problem here is, I don't have classes with her and I never see her. Is it a bad move to just DM her on twitter asking if she wanted to go on a date some time? Or should I just make a point to find her at school, talk in the hall, and then ask her in person? I think in person would be better, but being that she and I both hate school and aren't always present, I fear that I won't see her for quite a bit. If this seems stupid, forgive me, I went most of my life just doing my own thing, not really worrying about having a girlfriend or what's considered lame.
