You really need to supply more information about your system using specifics. What operating system and version of operating system are you using? What is your network adapter? Is it intel or something else? What router are you using? Details like these are ALWAYS useful to know for people who might be able to help.
Unfortunately I can't really help you because that information is sadly lacking in your posted question details.
So I'm going to take an educated guess based on experience.
DO NOT swap the wireless adaptor because it may be faulty. This is not true. Most problems with a connection can be solved by at least checking first and foremost if the driver software for the network adaptor is not only up to date, but is also for the right network adaptor. Intel had this problem with some Windows 8.1 systems - particularly where Toshiba is concerned. Find out what your adapter model is - then locate an updated driver for it - if windows update doesn't fix that, then you should go to the manufacturer's website to download the driver from there - in fact, I'd probably do that.
If your system is a branded model (Toshiba, Dell, Acer, etc) then you should visit THEIR website - not your network adaptor manufacturer's - to obtain the right driver for your adapter. If that *still* doesn't work you should contact their technical department or support team (or similar) to ask what driver you should be using - and they *will* want the necessary information to be able to help you so make sure you tell them what you're using *exactly*.
I can pretty much promise you your network adaptor is not borked - it does sound very much like you're using an old or downright useless driver for it.
