Computer/Internet advice!?

I live in a halls of residence they have wifi there for all the students to use. The SSL search is off and I can only access https websites (and some other websites) but I can't get onto my fav website (a warriors cats roleplay which I love to do in my spare time, don't judge). And also facebook is only text. it works fine at my house but not at the dorms and everyone else's internet is working fine, like facebook. I am wondering if its the computer itself as it is a fairly old make but I bought it a year ago....I was thinking about a new laptop or buying a wifi hotspot (can you do that I am sure you can)....and the roleplay website is PG13 so I'm not sure why they would block it or anything.....but how can I get on it when SSL search is off?!?!
