Every search engine uses a different algorithm to rate sites. I don't know exactly what causes the differences, but I expect it's nothing to do with the number of indexed pages.
There are a variety of places the description shown on the search engine can come from. These include the META tags of the page, as well as parts of the actual page text. In some cases, I would guess the different descriptions might be due to some search engines having old copies of the pages. It's probably not what you are looking for, but Google AdWords (and similar schemes) allow you to 'buy' keywords to place your site in the 'sponsored links' part of their site. This - or other forms of advertising - is the most reliable method of getting your site noticed, although it does cost money. |
