1. CONFUSION: lack of coherence, internal contradictions, disconnected facts, everything must be accepted
2. CLASS POSITION: envy and fear of certain classes, contempt for other classes, to know your place and that there is no way out of your class, you must stay where you are put 3. INDIFFERENCE: not to care about anything too much, but to make it appear that they do, that no work is worth finishing 4. EMOTIONAL DEPENDENCY: surrender their will to the predestined chain of command. Rights may be granted or withheld by any authority without appeal, because rights do not exist -- not even the right of free speech -- unless authorities say they do. Individuality is a curse 5. INTELLECTUAL DEPENDENCY: Good people wait for authorities to tell them what to do, experts make all the important choices. Curiosity has no important place 6. PROVISIONAL SELF-ESTEEM: Your self-respect should depend on expert opinion. Your decisions about yourself and your future should be based on the casual judgment of strangers. You should not trust yourself or your parents but should instead rely on the evaluation of certified officials. You need to be told what you are worth. 7. ONE CAN'T HIDE: They are always watched, that each is under constant surveillance. There are no private spaces, no private time. Students are encouraged to tattle on each other or even to tattle on their own parents. No one can be trusted, privacy is not legitimate. Surveillance is an imperative Ads |
