Inexplicable ping spikes/lag?
I am an avid gamer. I play a couple of online multiplayer games, as such any one game server is out of the line as a suspect to my issue.
For almost a month now I have been getting horrible ping spikes in intervals of 5-10 minutes, from the normal of 40-60ms to high hundreds. These episodes do not last very long, about 3-5 seconds, but are crippling my experience whilst trying to pwn noobz. No router/modem settings were changed prior to these happenings, my hardware and drivers are fine and up to date. I have Comcast btw. What I have tried so far: (Nothing works) Repeatedly resetting the router/factory reset Rollback and re install drivers Port forwarding/triggering. I am ruling out my machine, because the laptop I have on wifi is FAR worse, thing cannot keep a steady connection, in game I get constantly disconnected. Systems are clean/virus free, running windows W7. I have read similar reports from other comcast customers; they say that comcast will say there is nothing wrong with your connection and resetting the connection from their end does nothing. As such I have avoided calling comcast and sitting on hold for days. The network is not hogged by any one process on the machine, traffic is light at worst (2 computers, 2 phones and maybe an occasional 3DS) Disconnecting all other devices from the network yields no results. While not life changing, this issue is IRRITATING as all hell. I remember lag in the days of old shooters, but at least that was constant and easily fixed. This crap is happening seemingly at random. And don't tell me to switch to Verizon... They don't do business in my area :c As per answers: First answer sucks, please read entire question and details before answering. Second answer, mr Shodo. As I have said the router has been reset multiple times. I currently reside in Maryland. And I'm sure it spikes on everything, you can't really tell unless it's in a game. I will try Leatrix Ads |
