Can my former landlord see what I'm doing on my laptop if we shared wireless at one point?

Since you asked for it, I will give it to you straight,

When you were using his network, he would have been able to see what you are doing by using Wireshark or similar network analyser, which means he could have access to all your passwords, mail, facebook and know what you were doing, if you don't have an active firewall, he could have exploited a vulnerability and installed a trojan of his own. Which would have granted him a way to view you on your webcam without you knowing and spying on your other stuff including any files on your computer.

Now, you are no longer using his network, which means to say you are safe BUT, if he did exploit a vulnerability and installed a trojan, then he would effectively have a backdoor and your computer is no longer safe even if you are no longer on his network, he would still be able to access your stuff and webcam as and when he wants.

So it all boils down to:

Did you have an active firewall?

Do you have a good anti virus, internet security program and it was active?

If yes. Then change all your passwords and you should be safe.

If not, then you might want to consider changing your passwords on a different computer and formatting your current one.

Please take note that if he has your passwords, there would be more ways that he could install malware on you even after you have left the place because he would be able to log in to your mail account and forward you malicious emails and make sure that it is in your inbox priority mail because he can access it. Thus highly increasing your chances of self infecting unless you are very savvy and knows what to look out for.
