facebook deleted about 2.3 billion accounts which were fake probably his account got deleted because it might be suspicious to them, however if that might not be the case he should've disconnected his facebook temporarily or blocked due to which you can see him in ur profile because he was your friend but they cannot open it because he/she delete or temporarily diconnected the facebook account.
