Art is usually open to interpretation, especially with something as verbose as cinema. The funny thing about cinematographers, is that they LOVE symbolism. I bet you ace ventura has symbolism in it.
The core to any frame of professionally produced picture, is as follows: The frame is a box shape that draws your centre of attention to the focal point. It usually plays on the second part, the horizon. The horizon is meant to give the viewr a sense of elevation. For example, if the cinematographer wanted to give the audience the impression of inferiority, theyd film the subject from below. Likewise, if they wanted the subject to appear inferior to the audience, theyd film the subject from above. The message. Ask yourself in any scene - what's between the line? What is the director trying to tell you thats not in the script. And Colours: http://www.incredibleart.org/lessons/middle/color2.htm Id suggest a film like the excorism of emily rose to see what i mean because they blatantly use all of these techniques in a way that slaps the audience in the face. They create a sense of tension, you feel empathy for the characters and become enveloped in each scene. Im not saying this is a good movie, im just saying that youd notice all of the symbolism. If thrillers arent your flavour then try american beauty. Slightly more subtle, but its still there for you to see. |
