You follow people, groups, companies of your particular interest etc on Twitter. By follow it means what they say, you read. Most tweets contain web links so it's a good place too to discover what's on the web
A retweet is simply saying you like what the original person said and you want others to read as well and to just bump it up.

Twitter app will allow you faster access to Twitter.com and as well as a few tools you can quickly use to Tweet, read, search etc as opposed to going to Twitter through the internet.
