Twitter privacy? Someone please help me with this?

My friends came up to me and said "Woah, why did you call that person sexy on twitter? We saw you reply to a picture of them?" I don't feel comfortable with them seeing my tweets to someone else. I unfollowed all my friends on Twitter, but they are still in my "my followers" list. My friend's tweets don't show up in my news feed anymore, but if I make any tweets to a celebrity or just a tweet, would my friends still be able to see them? I don't want to block them, because then my friend's would get mad at me.
