There is only one thing that you can do: Pretend that you don't notice the "evil looks" and ignore everything. Say "hello" when you pass the women and leave it at that.

It's a sad sign of our times that hardly anybody seems to be capable anymore to resolve conflicts without causing drama. It's like most people need to bring the drama that they see on reality TV into their own lives. Maybe they think that it's the things are supposed to be? I am sorry that you lost your friends but considering how they are behaving now, I am not sure if they ever really were your friends to begin with.
