Black History Month taking precedence over Hispanic Heritage Month in America.?
Soooo my friend posted this on Facebook.

"HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH is over! Its so pathetic that schools don't do anything for it but as soon as February rolls around...celebrating and participating in Black history month is a must and mandatory! If kids have to learn spanish as a second language why the hell do you not teach them about the culture, the people, & its history?"

So for starters, Spanish is an option in school. It's not mandatory. Just saying.
I think all cultures and their history should be explored and taught in school, but it really annoyed me when the arguement went to "oh why is black history month and the enslavement of blacks so important and emphasized in America, but not Hispanic Heritage Month and the fact that they were slaves too." Im not big on history, but I would assume that more attention is given to the oppression of blacks in America, because it actually took place here. Ultimately, It's just a sorry ass apology. but is an apology not deserved? Ugh I guess what I'm looking for is some clarity. Should black history month be celebrated or given more attention than other groups of people? Can someone kindly give their opinion and some insight, please. Don't be rude. smh
oh and just wondering, Were hispanics slaves in America?
