Hey Courtney,
So in answer to your question, what I did was use tags like for example, if I had a fashion type picture my tags would be something like: "Fashion, Girl, Style" Stuff like that, using a lot of tags will help quite a lot, I gained around 100 Followers just by doing that, by using tags that is a way for people to actually find your blog, also I'd recommend reblogging people, following people and also if people are nice enough, ask them if they can promote you. If you need any more help, just ask me on tumblr, I left my link in the 'sources'.
