How do people on twitter get 100.5k (or more) followers?

Since there are trending topic on Twitter right, then there is a top tweet for every TT. So if someone tweets something funny or true that relates to what other people feel involving the trending topic, then that tweet will get retweeted. Sometimes it's not a lot but sometimes it turns into a top tweet. If you post good tweets that are funny or something then you will gain followers. I have 300 followers. I got them in a short amount of time because I tweet funny and relatable stuff.
