Absolutely. And I think his lack of confidence is what's holding him back from asking you out. I say, if you feel he does like you in that way, and you are as good as friends as you claim to be, then you should be able to speak to him about it. Many times we miss out on something that can be magical, because we are afraid to lose the "friendship". I guess the question you have to ask yourself is, "Do I like him back?" In which case, all is well. If not, then you should be completely honest and tell him you don't like him in that way, but you want to stay good friends. Good Luck!
