How to get followers for twitter-please help!?

So I had twitter for literally a year and a half and only had 56 followers and anytime I asked how to get more, people told me "be more interesting" and that's not gonna help someone find your account! So at 7pm the day before yesterday I searched "I follow back" on twitter and followed a bunch of people who were following those pages! Aide all the peopl that follow those pages usually follow back too. And I'm not even kidding, the day before yesterday I had 56 followed and now I have almost 600.
