What is twitter and how does it work? Twitter is one of the simplest social

networking websites in the world. It allows you to connect with other people who

share your interests or who might be interested in what you have to say. However,

many people have a tough time figuring out how it actually works. Unlike any other

websites, twitter is a micro-blogging website which allows you to post your views

and opinions in only 140 characters. Even the 'About Me' section of your

Twitter account has a character limit of 160 characters, which means you can only

write a line or two about yourself.

Twitter is free to join and you can set up an account in a matter of just a few minutes. After you create an account on twitter, you make a username that becomes part of your Twitter profile URL (for

example, @marthastewart's Twitter profile can be found at http://twitter.com/marthastewart). Your Twitter profile URL links directly to your profile page and is the easiest and quickest way for others to find you. After your page is set up, you're ready to start tweeting and following people who you find

interesting. You can follow people such as your friends, favorite celebrities, orpeople you've met on the Internet. It's important to understand when you follow someone on twitter, any updates that this person posts will appear on your twitter feed, You can also retweet the tweets you like by clicking

on the RT tab below them.

Tweeting regularly and adding a hint of humor to your tweets are some simple methods which can help you get more followers on Twitter. Twitter gives you current topics (which are shown as trends on your homepage) using the hash tag (#topic) will also help you reach out to the people and get new followers.

You can message someone or reply to someone's tweet by using the 'at sign' (@reply). However, you need to take into consideration the fact that if you message someone using this feature, that person's followers will also get to see your tweet. If you are not keen on sharing your message in the public domain, you can send him/her a direct message (DM) which only he/she will be able to read. Hopefully this gives you a little bit of insight as to how Twitter works and what the benefits are of having a Twitter account.

Not a lot of corrections as this was a small essay. Just note that sometimes you capitalize words that do not need to be capitalized.
