What happens if the police get involved with a 13 year olds facebook argument?

The 'other boy' is full of crap chances are.

Arguing, isn't illegal. Unless your friend uttered death threats or something as substantial as that arguing online in itself isn't anything the cops would care about.
Pretending there was something worth investigating it takes time to get the court paperwork together that compels internet sites like Facebook to turn over private info like personal information - names addresses and such... it's not something that happens just in a day.

At worst depending on how big of an idiot both the people are who are arguing worst that can happen is they'll both lose their facebook account - be banned for breaking Facebook's Terms of Service. It does take two to argue and normally when internet scraps happen both usually end up lowering themselves to saying stupid things that can get them banned.

Even if they delete their message history or crap off their wall - whatever... doesn't change anything. Everything they said and did is logged on Facebook's server - all internet sites do that. Deleting it just makes it invisible to the users; everything you ever do or did on facebook still exists server-side should it be reported and Facebook have to investigate.

You should be a good friend, tell them both to chill before they both end up losing... besides from the outside looking in - anyone who has a b*tchfest online looks stupid. They're only making themselves look like tards. Be a bud and let them know they should agree to disagree, get a hobby or something instead of just being baited by eachother
