How are the toys for girls and boys marketed and packaged?

whats popular with kids like tv shows have mostly all the toys anymore and kids watch the show and love to play with their own version of that cartoon.. soo basically its what appeals to children at the time they market it by having commercials, BIg posters at toy stores, post other but same toys on the package... as for packaging the marketing team do all that
