how to not get hurt and still take a chance?

What could i do about this?
there's a guy who was leaving a job at the local market just as i was being hired.

he seems cool, and is always paying attention to little things like making faces and asking me about myself, basically he sounds like a nice guy...

but then i realized he has a girlfriend, and she looks just like me except she is chubbier and has shoulder length blonde hair like me. similar facial structure.

IDK today was his last day and i told him i sent him an add on Facebook and when i told him i requested him he said he'd have to log in and check it when he got home.

long story short, his profile picture is of him and his GF. does that mean he's suer committed to her? having her be in his profile picture and all... are my chances of dating him significantly reduced because he's already with someone?

they're not married, but she is his girlfriend. not sure what to do, so for now I am doing nothing and that's why i posted this question: to get a better perspective on things.
