Is there a reason for why Google+ took half control over YouTube?

Well as far as I can understand, they are trying their best to make Google+ better than Facebook. But in the process of doing it, they are just annoying people more than anything. I like Google very much and I am a big fan of their products. But some of their tactics really irritate me.

For example, I used to read comments on YouTube videos a lot, and now all I can see is someone shared something via Google+ that I don't really care about and I don't want to know. I mean, seriously, who cares about someone's Google+ status of sharing the video? Just keep a counter that shows number of Google+ shares and that's it....
