I would have though every one would have understood that when Neil Young talked about Fort McMurray, that he meant the oil sands (although you are technically correct.) I have added a couple of images [1,2] so you can compare the oil sands near Fort McMurray with Hiroshima so you can see for yourself how he could make that comparison. The smell in Fort McMurray is discussed within the Fort McMurray comunity [3] and people downstream do have a higher then expected cancer rate [4] Neil Young was for the most part correct.
It is worth noting that Canadians spend, through their taxes, $2.8B a year to subsidize (what is for the most part) a private businesses. [5] and maybe Canadians should have an informed debate rather then accepting what the Federal government tells them in their tax funded, $22 million oil sands advertisements. [6] A government I might add that is destroying the contents of health science libraries because claiming to reduce cost, the libraries cost 1.75 million a year before privatization and Ironically the privatization actually increased costs. An irresponsible rant would be cherry picking oil sands and throwing in a "leaving five luxury buses idling" reference while destroying science libraries and spending $22 million on an advertising campaign promoting the oil sands. Do you see the difference? |
