Are my friends too sensitive or am i in the wrong?

Well, you shouldn't have just left, you should have given an explanatory note to them, wait for a few responses (a civil person wouldn't hold a grudge if you explained yourself), say "thanks for understanding!" and then left. Otherwise it would have felt a little rude, though I don't see why they should ignore you now. They ARE a bit too sensitive I agree, ignoring and holding a grudge over Facebook group chats, which I agree can be annoying because of the amount of notifications you receive, is immature. If you can talk to some of them again then sure, go ahead, it's never bad to have some friends there and some friends elsewhere. But if they continue to hold a grudge immaturely, don't focus on them then. I'm sure they'll eventually let go.
