How to get this girl to like me?

I'm 17 and there is an extremely pretty girl at my school that I am in love with. I've never even made eye contact with her, let alone talk to her, but just from seeing her talk to other people I can tell she has an awesome personality, an amazing smile, and an amazing laugh, so I know I'm not just attracted to her looks. The main problem is that we've never talked before and she has a ton of friends and seems to be outgoing, and I'm more of a quiet and shy person who hangs out with a small group of friends I've known for awhile.

Another thing that's bothering me is that I have her in 2 of my classes and I've had her in those classes since the school year started last August. That means it's been over 6 months of having her in 2 of the same classes and I haven't even made eye contact with her yet... does that mean it's too late to say something to her? She probably just sees me as one of those guys in class that are quiet and shy and doesn't talk to many people, so I'm scared she won't want to talk to me.

I'm very nervous to talk to her and she is almost always surrounded by her friends and I would prefer to talk to her alone instead of a crowd of people, because I feel like I would be more calm and it wouldn't be as awkward. Is there any way to get her alone in class for awhile so that I can talk to her one on one?

I've seen her Facebook page before and I noticed her mom's side of the family is from Maine, and her dad's side is from New York. A majority of my family also comes from Maine and New York. Being that we live in California now, this is pretty unique. I thought about saying something like "I've been talking to my family about how cold it's been outside lately, but they think I'm a wimp because they're from Maine and New York." After saying that I would hope she'd come back with something like "that's cool my family comes from Maine and New York too.", and she could see we have something in common. If this did work, though, what else could I say after that to keep the conversation going?

If I ever do get the opportunity to talk to her one on one, I thought about going in balls first and saying something like "this may seem awkward, but you're definitely the most beautiful girl in school." I think either this would surprise her a bit and make her feel good, or it could make her feel uncomfortable. Would this be okay to say or not?

One last thing, if I ever do get the opportunity to talk to her, what if we have a decent conversation? How would I go about talking to her again the next day? What would be a good conversation starter for the next day?


I must admit I'm not feeling confident about this because she is gorgeous and I feel as if I'm not good enough. I really don't want to mess this up.
