Careful about what you view as laws: When you sign-up and "agree" to their Terms of Service, you may be increasing difficulty of any privacy laws.

Check laws for "Privacy Ac"t, "Can SPAM" and "personally identifiable information (PII)" but always bare in mind there are differences between the law and your consent to use of certain systems could slightly amend your privacy if you "agreed to it up front" when you checked that "i agree" box and clicked continue.

The FTC works hard to protect you online as well. Check out their consumer section.
