I think you should wait for better phone because technology is changing rapidly and it may be possible that in few months you will get more advanced technology possibly from apple(iphone) itself.
Most of your friends have iphone and you are connected to your network through imessage so i think you should only go for iphone 5 if desperate to buy new. if you are not then wait and watch future advancements coming in iphone and you can try that.
