I still love my ex boyfriend. Should i tell him?

We were together for 5 months and broke up about 6 months ago, but i'm still in love with him. i don't really know why he broke up with me, he says it was because we're "different" but when i ask how, he just says "its hard to explain". we go to the same school, have some classes together and are in the same group of friends, but we never talk and it's awkward. I've tried to talk to him on Facebook just as friends a couple of times (because i'm too shy to talk to him in real life) but he's really blunt and just gives one word answers etc. so i don't think he feels the same.
I'm kind of bored of ignoring my feelings now and i want to try to get him back as it's not getting any better with time. should i tell him how i feel? what should i do?
