You may feel awkward but boldness can work to your advantage with the right timing. Some guys are oblivious to any kind of small talk....he might not get the point unless you get to the point. I know the rules say always wait for the guy to approach you....screw the rules sometimes! If you like him give him a look says I want to tear your clothes off and do bad things to you! He won't miss interpret that look for anything else but what it is....inviting! Direct eye contact that says "you know what i want but its up to you to figure it out". If he still doesn't get it plan B.
