are adults too busy to make new friends these days, do we not even try anymore? unless there is something "in it" for us

I think unless people need to make new friends for the purpose of networking etc, people rarely try to hang out with new people. i mean most of my college friends still hangout with the same people they used to since freshman year of college, and rarely make new friends if their old ones are in the same city. There are a few who are always willing to meet people, but they have something "in it" as they work in politics/business, where networking is essential
