You downloaded the file from a seeder, which is someone who was kind enough to share it with you and everyone else who wants it. It use to be good internet etiquette to share 3 times as much as you download.
Once you download the file or even part of it you become a seeder yourself, this is to increase the speed at which you, and everyone else, can download the file. If you leave your torrent program running it will continue seeding forever until you close the program or remove the file from your list. If you remove the file before sharing it then you wasted someone else's time and internet bandwidth and slow everyone else's download down. You can only share at 1/10th of your download speed so it is very difficult even when you leave the program running to reach a data cap that would cost extra money on your part. Downloading the files in the first place is what will cost you. Sharing a lot of old files might increase your response lag and really slow your computer down with extra process running so it is definitely useful to clear your lists and close the program but please try to share a little first. |
