For a phone running ICS Software:

Click on the apps button on the bottom row of icons and click widgets on the the top right of the phone. Chose the one you want and it will put in on one of your home screens.

For a phone not Running ICS

Long press on one of your home screens and a menu will pop up, and click on widgets. Then a list of widgets will appear that you can choose from

Once the widget is on your home screen you long press on it to move it around, and then when you do that you will see a trash can at the top or bottom of the phone that you can drag it too to delete it.

and yes, there should be one fro twitter, and calendar. Widgets are great, but dont over do them, because they do use data and can take battery on the phone.
