My friend is going through a tough time?

Here's some steps I found that should help you help your friend and you (as I'm sure that it's hard on you to lose a friend too!).
STEP 1.
Don't jump ship! Longtime friends deserve to know ahead of time that you are leaving, it's very rude to leave someone's life on short notice. Give yourself and them time to get ready for the big move. STEP 2.
Utilize what time you have left. If you are you used to seeing them often, its best to continue the trend as long as possible. Invite your friends over, watch movies, talk on the telephone, anything to get the most out of your time left. STEP 3. Make a video. This will prove very effective when your gone and feeling homesick. Capture the good times on tape you have with your friends and give them a copy for keepsake. Photos are also useful for this step. STEP 4. Throw a party. Around the last few days, have a going away party to remember! Invite all of your friends. Allow everyone to share their individual experiences with you (how you met, funny experiences, hardships, etc). Give them a chance to express how they feel about you leaving, and you do the same. Step 5. After you leave, try to come back and visit them in a month or so. Your friends will find it very thoughtful that you haven't forgotten about them already and will be glad to see you. People always happiest to see you the longer you've been away. Step 6 you've got friends. Keep in touch. You may not be able to see them, but you can always chat whenever possible. Get the max out of your night time minutes, emails, letters, Myspace and Facebook. It's always good to stay connected with good friends anyway you can!

BTW, is there any chance that you could take this "animal" (what is it?) or can they find it a home where she can keep in contact with the new owners to see how it's doing?

NEVER FORGET YOUR FRIEND AND JUST BE THERE FOR HER DURING THIS TOUGH TRANSITION! REASSURE HER THAT SHE WILL MAKE LOTS OF NEW FRIENDS BUT YOU ARE ALWAYS THERE FOR HER!
She's lucky to have a caring friend like you!
