are people losing the ability to have conversation?

i feel like whenever i am hanging out with friends they have nothing to talk about. And when i try and meet new people its like talking to a robot, my theory is that due to all the communication technology, television, video games, and computers. People dont actually have real life experiences so when they come face to face with people they dont know what to say. And i dont have a facebook or twitter so i feel really left out of a lot of conversations that people are having on them.
