1)Politics - The dominant political idea American colonists held is called 'Lockean Liberalism.' John Locke was a major promoter of self-reliance and the free-market (free enterprise).
But at the core of his Enlightenment-era political philosophy was INDIVIDUALISM, which was a key facet of the Rennaisance. 2)Religion - The Reformation was the major religious event of the Rennaisance. It's major ideals - as it affected Americans - was a faith in self-reliance (one interprets the Bible for oneself), and that material wealth could mean one was favored by God, or would reach Heaven.
