Why is the US such a violent place?

I think the fact that one of the political parties is financed by the gun lobby which needs crime in order to make a profit, pays a large part. If criminals didn't have guns, and homeowners weren't afraid of criminals with guns, there would be fewer guns sold. Gun companies pay a lot of money to Republicans to make sure that the crime rate stays high.

Funding education and after school programs have been proven to reduce crime.

Reducing the available of guns to criminals has been proven to reduce crime.

Putting more police on the streets, boosting the economy and the minimum wage, have been shown to reduce crime.

Welfare has been shown to reduce crime.

All sorts of social programs have been shown to reduce crime.

Abortion and birth control have been shown to reduce crime.

Isn't it interesting that the political party financed by the gun lobby comes down on the "more crime" side of each of these issues?
