- Buy hosting + a Domain name........... best to get them both from the same spot to make things easier. I recommend "1&1 Internet Ltd" for .uk domains and hosting to match, ARVIXE for .com / .net domains (get one for life included free with your hosting package with Arvixe)
http://www.alltheinterweb.co.uk/yald2/di...viewcat=98 The domains are held by a central registry agency........ domains ending in .uk are handled by NOMINET http://www.nominet.org.uk/ Domains are a fixed price, it's only if they because popular high trafficked websites, and the existing owner tries to sell it on through a company such as SEDO to sell it on that they become expensive. http://www.sedo.co.uk/main.php3?language...erid=36565 - The websites are stored in massive great big buildings called a "DATA CENTER" dotted around the world.... 1&1 Internet has datacentres in Slough, Cologne & Kansas (as far as I can remember). Each datacentre has hundreds of racks of computers, called "Servers" which store people's websites........ the 1&1 datacentre in the UK has 660 racks that can hold a maximum 30,000 webservers. http://order.1and1.co.uk/DataCenter To build the website, you can use software such as "Netobjects Fusion" (Available in free & paid for versions) http://netobjects.com/ Or you can use webpage builders that are often in the hosting company's control panel (where you also control other bits of your account). and/or you can use ready made PHP / CGI scripts to either make a whole site, or supplement an HTML site with a forum, etc........ though they can be a pain in the arse to install....... unless you use the "SOFTACULOUS" installer script that's ARVIXE have available in their hosting package. |
