I really like my crush, what should I do?

I'm in 9th grade, I really like this kid, we had 1 class together in 8th grade and he would make me laugh and cheer me up but I didn't realize I liked him. Then he switched classes and I realized how much I missed him but the thing is, I know he liked this other girl, I don't know if he still likes her. I really thought we had something though. Anyway, I pass by him and wave and he waves back, and usually I look at him and wanna smile when he looks at me back, but it's really awkward and my smile isn't very nice. ahha in my opinion. Anyway, he barely goes on social media and answers his phone and such, so I can only see him at school, and we haven't seen each other in a long time so I can't just go up to him and strike a conversation. What should I do?
