I might be overlooking your point, but it certainly sounds like 2 backlinks. Links from 2 different sites is more powerful than 2 links from 1 site.

Just be aware backlinking is not just a matter of counting links, some links are 1000x more powerful than others, your overall link profile is is considered, all links of the same type like blog comments is bad, all links with anchor text is bad, a mixture of links like what occurs naturally should be the goal.

A ink from the body text of a guest article written on a pr-7 page may be worth 1000x one of many comment links on an unranked page.
