what does "/" mean with it has a word attached to it? i.e. /lol, /taunt, /coughcough?

I thought that's a kind of emoticon. Maybe but not sure. I'm just sayin' . That person must be a very emotional person, he want everybody know about his feeling. You got it? Its a kind of emoticon,but not the faces,its feeling.
