Feminism is not about equality any longer as women in many ways have additional rights that men do not have. First Wave feminism was an equality discipline...from the Second Wave onwards, it's been about the promotion of the idea of "matriarchy," or promoting women to positions of power and control within society. Ironically though, feminists have shown little interest in women picking up all of the responsibilities that have traditionally been hoisted on men.
Feminists do not seem to support the idea of women being conscripted into the military; they do not seem to support the idea of treating women who break the law as harshly as men are treated; they do not seem to support sharing domestic violence resources with men who are the victims of abuse; etc... Anti-feminism was originally a term used in a pejorative sense to describe those who did not agree with feminisms objectives. Over time, those who have been called "anti-feminists" have embraced the term because they are openly hostile towards feminism. Both sides can range in terms of the extremes, however it's important to note that with anti-feminism, because the term denotes someone who stands in opposition to feminism, the beliefs can vary much more broadly. In addition, some female writers have noted that feminists use the term "anti-feminist" to silence opposition to their programs! I think feminism is destructive at this point in time, and I think that anti-feminism is largely reactionary at this point...although that's changing! |
